The Pelagic Idea

img-pelagicsNot too long ago Scardy (David Scard) rang me with a suggestion to design a quiver of boards specifically top end for the finest waves on the planet. I had been struggling over the last few years  with a way to offer a selection of boards, named to avoid confusion and constituting one man’s quiver. Dave and I have selected what we consider the prime lengths for each level of wave heights.

It’s funny how some lengths are magic numbers and others aren’t. 6’8” is magic, 6’7” isn’t.  7’2” is and  7’3” isn’t.  Don’t try to explain it, it just is.

These boards will come in 3 widths and thickness to accommodate bigger and smaller guys but the lengths will remain the same.

Eg;
6’5” x 18 ¼ x 2 ¼,
6’5” x 18 ½ x 2 3/8
6’5” x 19     x 2 ½

All will be 6 Channel, shallow tails and equipped with FCS  1’s and 2’s.

If you want to trust in our combined knowledge on these boards then this way you can rest easy. We pretty much guarantee them. Full custom will also be available but this Pelagic Series will be available off the rack.

We will post pictures of these boards as soon as we have made the first ones. Our intention is to upgrade the designs on a yearly basis, which will probably require extensive research from David and myself during each year. If you can’t contact us we are probably working on design in Indo, Hawaii or Tahiti.

Tough Job.

    Hi I saw your Pelagic boards in a shop in Bali & I’m interested in getting one.
    I’m an intermediate level surfer, 5′10″ ~170lb. I ride mostly peeling type reef breaks.
    I have been using a 6′6″, 20″, 2.5″ fish is waves up to ~4ft (swell) & a 6′11″, 20.5″, 2 5/8 shortboard shape on bigger waves.
    The fish particularly lacks speed for racing sections, so I was interested in something fast.
    Do you have more information available on the boards, sizes, volumes, widths & other options. Are they a quad or a thruster? Are the channels any worse than a regular board is slightly choppy conditions? Where can I get one, I live in Western Australia. What do you recommend? I was hoping for a board to use most of the time, from 2ft (potentially slow) to 6ft reef breaks. 6′5″ or 6′8″?
